Hygiene Maintenance for the Dental Implant Patient

Program Description:

This course will cover the role of the dental hygienist in a comprehensive implant practice. Clinicians will be able to recognize different common dental implant complications and peri-implant diseases. We will also examine ways we can help maintain and care for dental implant patients, both in-office and at home, with a defined maintenance protocol.

Program Objectives:

At the completion of the program, participants should be able to:

·       Analyze the role of the dental hygienist in a dental implant practice.

·       Evaluate various options for radiographic assessment of missing teeth.

·       Clarify the definition and importance of dental implants.

·       Identify common complications associated with dental implants.

·       Design an effective hygiene maintenance protocol for patients with dental implants.

·       Assess different home care strategies for patients with dental implants.

·       Overcome common barriers to case acceptance and navigate patient concerns.

 

Matt Shipley, RDH, Clinical Training Manager

Matt Shipley is a Clinical Training Manager at ZimVie and a Registered Dental Hygienist in Texas and Oklahoma. A proud member of Dallas College’s Dental Hygiene Advisory Board since 2014 and a dental hygiene mentor, Matt practiced clinical dental hygiene for ten-plus years with two national Dental Support Organizations where he worked alongside general and specialty dentists to develop specialty programs. Matt has provided chair-side support, staff education, and clinical development to various-sized DSOs since 2018. Matt believes in treating every patient as if they were a friend or family member.
